Q Is it ethical to use dogs, monkeys, and other animals as service animals for people with physical, mental or intellectual disabilities? Do the benefits to humans outweigh potential detriment to animals?
Before deciding upon anything on this matter the well-being of both the animal and the human being must be kept under consideration. Service animals like dogs are especially useful when it comes to helping old people and people with certain disabilities. It has been seen that in both cases the quality of life has increased when the dog is in constant interaction with the human being. Dogs are also used in prison where convicts who are about to be released in a few months or a year train the dogs to become service dogs for the elderly and disabled. Dogs are very intuitive and when they remain in touch with the human beings, their quality of life also increases.
